Municipal Law
Our experienced municipal practice team counsels elected and appointed county, city, village, and town officials, as well as sanitary district and lake management district commissioners, in all aspects of local government operations. We represent municipal clients in the following areas:
LAND DEVELOPMENT AND ZONING
We assist municipal clients in coordinating efforts with developers to ensure the orderly and efficient development of land. Our team guides municipalities through the zoning and land use issues that are often involved with development projects. With the oversight of the governing body, we negotiate and draft development agreements establishing construction and storm water management standards as well as timelines for project completion.
ORDINANCE DRAFTING AND ENFORCEMENT
Our team also works with municipalities to draft, interpret, and enforce local ordinances. In addition, we advise our clients on law changes that affect their ordinances and operations so that they may make the necessary procedural or substantive changes.
OPEN RECORDS AND OPEN MEETINGS LAWS
The State of Wisconsin’s Open Records and Open Meetings laws place great importance on the transparency of local government. We guide our clients to ensure complete compliance with this important but often complicated responsibility.
ADDITIONAL MUNICIPAL LEGAL ISSUES
As general or special counsel, our attorneys assist municipalities with a broad range of legal issues, including tax incremental financing, joint municipal cooperation, alcohol licensing, environmental cleanup and redevelopment, and property assessment appeals.
