A PART OF SHEBOYGAN SINCE 1885.
Who We Are
Hopp Neumann Humke LLP is one of Sheboygan County’s oldest and largest law firms, representing clients in six major practice areas: Business Services, Estate Planning and Probate, Family Law, Municipal Law, Personal Injury and Real Estate Services.
Our History
When Charles Maynard opened the doors of his law office in 1885, he probably did not expect that he was starting the law firm that still continues today as Hopp Neumann Humke LLP.
Mr. Maynard, among the first class of Plymouth High School graduates soon teamed with Valentine Detling, a former Register of Deeds to provide a full range of activity including real estate sales, notary public services and loans. This practice of mixing legal and non-legal services is not allowed under current legal ethics.
Mr. Maynard was elected Sheboygan County City Attorney in the 1890s, a position that he had to give up in 1899 when he was appointed Postmaster for Sheboygan by President McKinley.
Being Postmaster did not preclude him from continuing to practice law, however, and in 1901, he brought in Valentine Detling’s son, Henry who had completed legal studies at the University of Wisconsin as a law partner.
Over the years, over 30 lawyers have come and gone from the firm that Mr. Maynard and Mr. Detling started and other lawyers merged their practices with the firm. In the end, Hopp Neumann Humke LLP continues to thrive and continues to meet the legal needs of Sheboygan.
