Carl has had an eclectic legal practice starting out as the district attorney of a small northern Wisconsin county where he prosecuted three homicides in his first year of office. From that early experience, he has built a litigation practice involving subjects as varied as will contests to construction contract disputes. Since 2001, he has been serving as the designated Sheboygan County Corporation Counsel pursuant to a unique contract that the firm has with the Sheboygan County Board.

- Obtained a fraud adjudication in federal bankruptcy case
- Defeated a zoning-based civil rights claim made against a municipal client
- Represented winner at trial and appeal in an oppressed minority shareholder case
- Successfully represented an employer at trial and appeal in a privacy violation claim
- Handled the negotiations for the acquisition of a multi-million dollar park site
- Successfully argued landmark Wisconsin Supreme Court case confirming the use of trusts to protect children in high asset family law cases
